September 6th, 2015

Ramen Chako

Ramen Chako (ラーメン茶湖) is a popular ramen restraunt run by Mr. Kazuaki Arisaka (有坂和晃) at Purattominato Market (ぷらっとみなと市場) in Minato-machi, Tomakomai city, and has a history of over 20 years. They moved to the Purattominato Market in 2009. The restraunt is known for tasty ramen, and serves dishes using surf clam, a local speciality of the Tomakomai, such as Surf Clam Ramen, Surf Clam Curry and Rice and Surf Clam Fried Rice. I guess that the Chako is good at dishes using the surf clam because Tomakomai is the largest catch of the surf clam in Japan. Of course, they also serve ordinary menu such as various ramen, fried rice and curry and rice.

The restraunt with an atomosphere such as a good old morning market restaurant is one of shops in the market, and is lined with marine product shops and souvenir shops. Big-catch flags are hung on walls, and I guess that visitors feel a fish market. The restraunt has counter seats and table seats, and a lot of the table seats are provided, so I guess that family customers also enjoy meals.

Surf Clam Curry and Rice

I heard that the Surf Clam Curry and Rice was tasty, so I visited here around 7:00 a.m., just a opening, on a weekday. No one were at the restraunt. Fish market workers often come to eat thier meals, but only I was at the estraunt. The restraunt also serve alcohol, so visitors can enjoy drinking. I sat at a table seat, and ordered the Surf Clam Rice and Curry with a good reputation. The price was JPY 680.

Afer waiting for about 3 minutes, the owner served the Surf Clam Rice and Curry. I ate one bite immediately. Spicy taste spreaded over in my mouth. But it was not too spicy. I finded out a piece of the surf clam, and ate it. I wondered if it was fresh, so the surf clam had a chewy texture. This is a dish combined the surf clam called a local speciality of the Tomakomai with the rice and curry called Japanese national staple together well. You should order Delux Surf Clam Curry and Rice if you are not enough to eat a normal portion of the surf clam.
