[Shunkaro in Obihiro] Large Portion of Chinese Chirashi Is Tasty
Shunkaro (春香楼) is a long-established Chinese restaurant founded in 1967 in Obihiro city, and has been loved by local people since half a century. They have served high-class Chinese cuisine. Their cooking skill is also commended from China, hometown of the Chinese cuisine. They have 2 restaurants, the head office and Chuo Branch. The manager of the head office is Mr. Sadatoshi Suzuki (鈴木貞利) with a lisence of International Medicinal Cooking Instructor (国際薬膳調理指導士), and the manager of the Chuo Branch is Mr. Tomoaki Suzuki (鈴木智亮), Sadatoshi Suzuki's son. The Chuo Branch was given the Bib Gourmand by MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2017 Special Edition. In addition, Sadatoshi Suzuki works as the lecturer of the Chinese cuisine in Obihiro Culinary School (帯広調理師専門学校), and I think that he is one of the Chinese cuisine masters in the Obihiro.
I visited the head office near Midorigaoka Park. Apartment is on the 2nd floor, and their restaurant is on the 1st floor. They have counter seats and table seats, so I guess that family customers also enjoy meals. The head office is famous for serving Chinese Chirashi called the comfort food of the Obihiro, and Chinese Fried Rice and Hong Kong Style Chow Mein as well as the Chinese Chirashi are popular. Since it not only tastes good but a large portion of dishes and reasonable prices of the dishes are also popular for a reason.
By the way, a highway bus "Potato Liner (ポテトライナー)" runs between the Obihiro and the Sapporo, and a express bus "North Liner-go (ノースライナー号)" runs between the Obihiro and Asahikawa. Besides, Rent-a-car can be rented around Obihiro Station and Obihiro Airport.
Obihiro (帯広) that about 170,000 people live is the 6th largest commercial city in Hokkaido, and is one of regional hub cities of the Eastern Hokkaido area. It has flourished as the center of the Tokachi district. The Obihiro is also a stockyard for agricultural products in whole Tokachi district, and Potato, Beet, Wheat and Chinese Yam are famous as a local product. As for a climate, it is hot that temperature rises to nearly 30 degrees in a summer, and it is cold that temperature falls to nearly -20 degrees in a winter. It has a large temperature gap, but it has less snow relatively in the Hokkaido. Therefore skating is popular in the winter. Mr. Hiroyasu Shimizu, an olympic gold medalist, come from the Obihiro, and there is much competition population of the skating. Read More
The reason why I visited famous authentic Chinese restaurant in the early evening was that I wanted to eat the Chinese Chirashi (中華ちらし). It seemed to be too early to eat dinner, so no cutomers were at the restaurant. The restaurant did not still look busy, so I took a table seat. The Chinese Chirashi is a rice bowl dish eaten by Obihiro people from old days. Fried pork, fried vegetables and scrambled egg are put on the rice. Because ingredients were scattered on the rice, so it seemed to be named. * The Chirashi means "Scatter" in Japanese.
His wife came, so I ordered the Chinese Chirashi immediately. The price was JPY 650. After waiting for about 7-8 minutes, and it was served with a dish of pickled radish and a cup of soup. Fried ingredients scattered on the non-fried rice are like Chirashi Sushi, and fried cloud ear mushrooms, scrambled eggs, fried sliced green peppers and fried pork caught my eyes. I ate a mouthful immediately. It tasted a little sweet of oyster sauce. The meal had relatively big portion and a robust flavor. It was delicious!
His wife told me about their Chinese Chirashi. In the old days, the Chinese Chirashi was staff meal. A certain regular customer wanted to eat it, and asked the owner to want to eat it. He seemed to like it when he ate it a little. The owner would not want to add the staff meal to a menu. But the regular customer wanted to ordinary eat it. Then he thought that he should add new menu himself, and made a new menu by paying out of his own pocket. It seemed to cost a considerable sum of money in those days. The Chinese Chirashi becomes the popular menu now. I thought the faith of the regular customer was excellent, and the owner had a big-hearted to permit his action.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
