[Ajifuku in Obihiro] Originator of Chinese Chirashi Can Be Savored at Chinese Restaurant
Ajifuku (あじ福) is a long-established Chinese restaurant founded in 1971 in a residential area, Obihiro city, and is well-known as the originator of Chinese Chirashi (中華ちらし). They have 2 branches, East Branch (東店) and Minamino Branch (みなみ野店), and I visited the East Branch. The Chinese Chirashi is a rice bowl dish eaten by Obihiro people from old days. Fried pork, fried vegetables and scrambled egg are put on the rice. Because ingredients were scattered on the rice, so it seemed to be named. * The Chirashi means "Scatter" in Japanese. Mr. Naohiko Ikeda (池田直彦), the predecessor of the restaurant, used to work for Kappo Shochiku (割烹松竹), and the Chinese Chirashi was one of staff meals in the Kappo Shochiku, and some restaurant in the Obihiro have served the Chinese Chirashi, and it is said that the Chinese Chirashi is the comfort food of the Obihiro.
The East Branch is the head office succeed to the manager of the restaurant by his daughter, and the building is renewed. They have counter seats and table seats, so I guess that family customers also enjoy meals. When I visited here at 17:00 o'clock, just opening hour, no customers were at the restaurant, but it seems to be crowded with customers at lunchtime. Ramen as well as the Chinese Chirashi is also popular.
By the way, a highway bus "Potato Liner (ポテトライナー)" runs between the Obihiro and the Sapporo, and a express bus "North Liner-go (ノースライナー号)" runs between the Obihiro and Asahikawa. Besides, Rent-a-car can be rented around Obihiro Station and Obihiro Airport.
Obihiro (帯広) that about 170,000 people live is the 6th largest commercial city in Hokkaido, and is one of regional hub cities of the Eastern Hokkaido area. It has flourished as the center of the Tokachi district. The Obihiro is also a stockyard for agricultural products in whole Tokachi district, and Potato, Beet, Wheat and Chinese Yam are famous as a local product. As for a climate, it is hot that temperature rises to nearly 30 degrees in a summer, and it is cold that temperature falls to nearly -20 degrees in a winter. It has a large temperature gap, but it has less snow relatively in the Hokkaido. Therefore skating is popular in the winter. Mr. Hiroyasu Shimizu, an olympic gold medalist, come from the Obihiro, and there is much competition population of the skating. Read More
The restaurant did not still look busy, so I took a table seat. Then I read a menu, and found the Chinese Chirashi. The originator of the Chinese Chirashi was written on the menu. It is said that Mr. Naohiko Ikeda made new menu of the Chinese Chirashi in the Kappo Shochiku, so the originator is highlight. I ordered it immediately. The price was JPY 830. After waiting for about 5 minutes, and it was served with a dish of yellow pickled radish and a cup of soup.
Fried ingredients scattered on rice are like Chirashi Sushi, and scrambled eggs, fried soybean sprouts, a fried shrimp, fried cloud ear mushrooms, a fried green bean and sliced red pickled gingers caught my eyes. The rice was not fried. It looks like Chukadon (中華丼) without thickness, but it is not a totally different dish.
I ate a mouthful immediately. It tasted a little sweet. Hokkaido people like putting suger in Natto or steamed rice with red beans, so I guess that the Chirashi Sushi is seasoned with a little suger. The crunchy texture of the fried soybean sprouts was good, and sesame oil made the scrambled eggs very tasty. The Chinese Chirashi was delicious! Although it is full of the ingredients, it is not a much bigger portion, so I guess that female customers can polish off it, too. I cleaned it for about 10 minutes. Thanks for the meal! By the way, local customers entered in the restaurant while eating my meal, and they also ordered the Chinese Chirashi. The Chinese Chirashi is popular with local people, after all.
