[Toda Memorial Park Cemetery in Ishikari] One of Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Hokkaido Is Created by 8,000 Cherry Trees and Graves Formed in Orderly Lines
Toda Memorial Park Cemetery
Toda Memorial Park Cemetery (戸田記念墓地公園) is a cemetery run by Soka Gakkai (創価学会) on a small hill of about 60 m altitude in Atsuta ward (厚田区), Ishikari city (石狩) located in the northeastern direction of Sapporo city. Mr. Seijo Toda (戸田城聖), the second-generation president of the Soka Gakkai, grew in the Atsuta, so the Toda Memorial Park Cemetery was developed in his memory in 1977. More than 54,000 graves are built on the site, and the size is large. Here is well-known as one of the best cherry blossom spots in Hokkaido. Although it is a religious facility, it opens to the public during a cherry blossom season. Especially, it attracts overseas people these days. The best time to see the cherry blossoms is about from early May to mid May. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge.

Toda Auditorium (戸田講堂), Restaurant Atsutatei (レストラン厚田亭), Toda Memorial Open Space (戸田記念広場), Standing Figure of Josei Toda (戸田先生立像), Onshi Open Space (恩師公園), Okan Road (桜冠の道), Oka Road (桜花の道), a rest station, public restrooms and parking lots are built at the land of 1.58 million m2. The site is large, so I think that visitors should drive their auto mobiles to enjoy the cherry blossoms at various places. Ripple, a popular pizza restaurant, and cafes, Lyceenne and cafe VAN classic, are built near the cemetery, and a convenience store is close to here, too. Shiragane Falls (白銀の滝), Hamamasu Onsen (浜益温泉) and Fujimiya (ふじみや) are also relatively near here.
Shiragane Falls (白銀の滝) are located in the northern part of Ishikari city along Japanese National Route 231 and was named as opening road memory in 1981. Wwater drops around 30 m into the sea, and the splash seemed to look silver in old days. By the way, Beware of Pit vipers. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge. A restroom is built beside the parking lot, too. Read More

The distance is around 70 km far away from the center of the Ishikari, and a convenience store is not built around here. Cherry Blossoms of Toda Memorial Park Cemetery
The Toda Memorial Park Cemetery is divided into a large number of blocks, and the graves are built orderly. About 8,000 cherry trees such as Yoshino cherry are planted along roads and at the cemetery. In a spring, an amazing view of the cherry blossoms appears. When I visited here to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom for the first time, I was moved by the view. I agreed that people said it was one of the best cherry blossom spots in the Hokkaido. My favorite places are the Okan Road and the Oka Road. In addition, the size and the material of all the graves are same, so views with graves formed in orderly lines are interesting.
Along the Okan Road, a tunnel of the cherry blossoms are worth seeing because cherry trees are planded on both sides of the narrow road. A lot of the cherry trees spread those branches to the sky for some reason, so I feel as if it was Ume trees. Here was the most crowded place in the Toda Memorial Park Cemetery.
Along the Oka Road as well as the Okan Road, a tunnel of the cherry blossoms are worth seeing because cherry trees are bloomed on both sides of the narrow road. Fewer visitors came here than the Okan Road, so I think that it is easy to take a photo of only cherry blossoms without people.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
