[Furen Bokodai Nature Park in Nayoro] Cherry Blossoms around Lake Chureppu
Furen Bokodai Nature Park
Furen Bokodai Nature Park (風連望湖台自然公園) is in Furen, Nayoro city located between Asahikawa city and Wakkanai city, and the distance is about 10 km far away from downtown to here. The park has Churreppu Dam (忠烈布ダム), Lake Churreppu (忠烈布湖) and an auto campsite, and cherry trees are planted here and there. The best season is from early May to mid May. Siberian iris and Lily of the valley can be seen there, too. By the way, Center House, Junbo Roller slide and a tennis court has shut down around cottages. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge.
Chureppu Dam (忠烈布ダム) is an embankment dam built for using irrigation water in 1930. Its height is about 19 m, and it is small. The Lake Chureppu, a manmade lake, was born by finished the dam. Fishing and swimming are forbidden at the lake. But the lake water is drained to analyze water quality once every 3 years. In this case, Carp Fesival (鯉まつり) is held, and visitors seem to enjoy catching a fish with their hands.
Nayoro (名寄) that about 30,000 people live is the 24th largest commercial city in Hokkaido, and is located between Wakkanai city and Asahikawa city, and is one of regional hub cities of the North Hokkaido area. The Nayoro means "A country near rivers" in Ainu language, and the downtown is between Nayoro River (名寄川) and Teshio River (天塩川). Furen that became incorporated with the Nayoro in 2006 is well-known for glutinous rice, and the planted area is the largest in Japan. As for a climate, it is hot that temperature rises to nearly 30 degrees in a summer, and it is cold that temperature falls to nearly -30 degrees in a winter because Nayoro is located in a basin. Natural environment of abou 60-degrees temperature difference is one of features of the Nayoro. So natural phenomena such as SunPillar and Diamond Dust can be enjoyed. The Nayoro is just beside Bifuka town recorded the coldest temperature, -41.5 degrees, in Japan, and is one of the coldest region in the Hokkaido. Read More
