CONTENTS
Izumi Shokudo
Izumi Shokudo (いずみ食堂) is a long-established buckwheat noodle restaurant founded in 1960 in Monbetsu, Hidaka town located in the southeastern direction of Tomakomai city, and is relatively near Mombetsu Racecourse (門別競馬場) and Monbetsu Onsen Tonekko-no-Yu (門別温泉 とねっこの湯). Izumi Shokudo Ltd. runs it, and Mr. Shiichiro Shibuya (渋谷 進一郎) is a company president now. The restaurant is well-known as a popular restaurant loved by local people, and is crowded with a lot of visitors at lunchtime. The appearance and the interior decoration have an atomosphere such as a typical good old Japanese local restraunt. Counter seats and table seats are provided, so I guess that even family customers and a large number of customers enjoy meals.

Buckwheat Noodles of Hokkaido
Hokkaido occupies about 40% of buckwheat production of Japan, and is the largest buckwheat production in the Japan, and Nagano prefecture, Ibaraki prefecture, Fukushima prefecture and so on follow the Hokkaido. The climate is cool in a summer, and a large temperature gap is great for good buckwheat, and the buckwheat production of the Hokkaido is increasing. Horokanai (幌加内), Fukagawa (深川) and Otoineppu (音威子府) are the 3 largest production places. Especially, the Horokanai is the best buckwheat production and the largest planted area in the Japan, and is well-known as a buckwheat town, and uses buckwheat fields as tourist attractions well. In Fukushima town, Sengen Soba Buckwheat Flowers Viewing Party (千軒そばの花鑑賞会) is held in buckwheat fields, and a fantastic conbination of the buckwheat fields and Matsumae Kagura (松前神楽) can be enjoyed. Buckwheat Noodles
I visited here around 13:00 on a weekday, and a lot of customers enjoyed their meals at the restaurant. The Izumi Shokudo does not have a small number of seats, so I think that the restaurant is considerably popular. I sat at a table seat, and read a menu. All the dishes on the menu looked tasty, but I ordered Buckwheat Noodles with Octopus Tempura and Burdock Tempura (たこかき揚げ天そば). About 15 minutes later, the Buckwheat Noodles with Octopus Tempura and Burdock Tempura was served.

The hand-made buckwhea noodles were uneven and very thick, and a part of the buckwhea noodles resembled sword cut noodles. The noodles were chewy and very good texture. The soup stock was tasty, too. It was just right seasoning for me. Tempura were deep-fried burdock and deep-fried octopus. Those were good texture. I can understand that they are popular.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
