[Marukatsu in Takikawa] Curried Buckwheat Noodle Soup Can Be Eaten for Resonable Price

Marukatsu (まるかつ) is a popular buckwheat noodles restraunt facing National Route 12 in Takikawa city, and is near Takikawa City Hall. The appearance and the interior decoration have a good old atmosphere of Showa period. The restraunt serves low price buckwheat noodles like stand-up-eating soba noodles, and their buckwheat noodles have been called "The comfort food of Takikawa people". By the way, a photography is prohibited at the restraunt now, if customers want to take a picture, they should get a permit from the restraunt. In addition, prices of their dishes rise.

I was surprised at about JPY 300, prices of most of their dishes. In addtion, I was more surprised at a numerousness of visitors. 3 people lined up when I visited here around 11:30 on Sunday. Because I did not expect it, I decided to come again. Meanwhile, visitors came over one after another. The reasonable price and average quality will take the local people captive.

Speaking of the Takikawa, Canola Flower Fields is famous. Takikawa Canola Flower Festival is held in late May. Except that, Takikawa Sky Park, Roadside Station Takikawa, Maruka Highland Lookout, Science Museum for Child, Colonizers' House are relatively popular tourist attractions. Hot springs gush out in the Takikawa, and a day trip onsen can be enjoyed in Ebeotsu Onsen and Takikawa Onsen.

Canola Flower Fields

There are about 60 canola flower fields in Takikawa city. Planted area changes every year, but the total area is about 150 ha. The canola flower planted area seems to be the largest area in Japan and is in full bloom from late May to early June, during the period the canola flower field in the Ebeotsu district (江部乙地区) is opened to general public and tourists can enjoy a scenery of the canola flower field like a typical Hokkaido scenery. Because an observatory deck is built, tourists can look over the canola flower field from the top. The yellow canola flowers and the blue sky will take our breath away. There is a restroom in the site. A parking lot is not provided, and the tourists can park their cars on the shoulder of the road. Article is here

Ebeotsu Onsen

Ebeotsu Onsen (えべおつ温泉) is a hot spring place in Takikawa city located in the northeastern part of Sapporo city. Ebeotsu Onsen Ryokan (えべおつ温泉旅館) is built in front of Ebeotsu Station. Restraunts and convenience stores are relativelt near here. The distance between the Ebeotsu Onsen and the center of the Takikawa is around 10 km, and it is little far away. It is the origin of the Ebeotsu Onsen that an angler found a cold spring source in Taisho period. After that, it succeeded in drilling hot spring in 1982, and 2 types of springs can be enjoyed at the Ebeotsu Onsen. Article is here

Buckwheat Noodles of Hokkaido

Hokkaido occupies about 40% of buckwheat production of Japan, and is the largest buckwheat production in the Japan, and Nagano prefecture, Ibaraki prefecture, Fukushima prefecture and so on follow the Hokkaido. The climate is cool in a summer, and a large temperature gap is great for good buckwheat, and the buckwheat production of the Hokkaido is increasing. Horokanai (幌加内), Fukagawa (深川) and Otoineppu (音威子府) are the 3 largest production places. Especially, the Horokanai is the best buckwheat production and the largest planted area in the Japan, and is well-known as a buckwheat town, and uses buckwheat fields as tourist attractions well. In Fukushima town, Sengen Soba Buckwheat Flowers Viewing Party (千軒そばの花鑑賞会) is held in buckwheat fields, and a fantastic conbination of the buckwheat fields and Matsumae Kagura (松前神楽) can be enjoyed. Only 2 seats were vacant when I visited here around 14:30 again. The restraunt had only counter seats, and had an atomosphere such as a typical stand-up-eating soba noodle shop (立ち食いそば屋). I admired the popularity. Anyway, I sat a counter seat, and ordered Curried Buckwheat Noodle Soup (カレーそば). The price was JPY 300.

I was also surprised at serving speed for about 3 minutes. The buckwheat noodles were rather tender, but the curry soup was just right spicy taste. Ingredients were onions and pork. Customers can eat quickly for approximately 5 minutes. In addition, a dish called special seems to be popular. Drinking water help ourselves.
