Bogakudai (望岳台) is a lookout in the middle between Shirogane Onsen (白金温泉) and Fukiage Onsen (吹上温泉) linked by Hokkaido Road 996 in Biei town located in the southern part of Asahikawa city. In the Daisetsuzan National Park (大雪山国立公園), There are a trailhead for Tokachidake Mountain Range, a large parking lot, walks and a shelter in the mountainside at about 930 above sea level. A observation deck is not built. The shelter built in 2016 has a resting place, too, and a restroom is provided for free, too. The walks are built around the Bogakudai, but there are some places closed to the public because a bridge is broken. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge. * The road between the Bogakudai and the Shirogane Onsen is closed to traffic from mid October to mid May.
Maruya Onsen (丸谷温泉) and Tokatidake Ski Resort (国設十勝岳スキー場) used to be here. But the onsen was destroyed by the volcanic eruption of the Mt. Tokachidake, and the ski resort was closed and was removed. Shirogane Ryuroko Channel Works (白金流路工) like a river is built to let volcanic mudflow flow because Biei people suffered serious damage by the volcanic eruption several times. 4 bridges are built across the channel works, and Mrs. Ayako Miura (三浦綾子), a famous novelist, that wrote "Deiryu Chitai" named the bridges as Shingetsu Bridge (新月橋), Subaru Bridge (昴橋), Eiko Bridge (永光橋) and Kosen Bridge (虹泉橋). The channel works flow into Biei River with Shirahige Falls (白ひげの滝) near Shirogane Onsen. Blue Pond (青い池) in the lower reaches of the river is relatively near there, too.
Shirahige Falls (白ひげの滝) is a waterfall at about 600 m above sea level in Shirogane Onsen, Biei town located in the southeastern part of Asahikawa city, and was named after splashes of the falls like the white mustache. It is the rare waterfall in Japan that underground water drops from cracks of rocks, and is one of famous falls together with Furepe Falls (乙女の滝) in Shiretoko Peninsula and Funbe Falls (フンベの滝) in Hiroo in Hokkaido. By the way, Yumoto Shirogane Onsen Hotel (湯元白金温泉ホテル) is built on the falls. Admission free. As for a parking lot, visitors can park at Shirogane Tourist Information Center or a community parking lot. A restroom is provided at the Shirogane Tourist Information Center, too. Article is here
Shirogane Onsen (白金温泉) is a popular hot-spring resort in Biei town located in the southern part of Asahikawa city. Three-hundred thousand people visit here every year. There are Fukiage Roten-no-Yu (吹上温泉露天の湯) and Fukiage Onsen Rest Center Hakugin-so (吹上温泉保養センター 白銀荘) at 1200 m above sea level. Those are popular for high quality hot springs and a sense of openness. A type of the hot springs is acidic calcium and sodium sulfate chloride spring, and its characteristic is sour taste. That has a lot of the meta-silicic acid content, so it seems to be effective for beautiful skin. Unfortunately, restraunts, cafes, cafes, souvenir shops and convenience stores are not built. Nonstop buses do not run from Sapporo, New Chitose Airport or Asahikawa. Kamirurano town bus from Kamifurano Station to Fukiage Onsen, and here are Tokachidake Line Time Table and Route Map. Trailhead for Mt. Tokachidake
The Bogakudai is a trailhead for the Mt. Tokachidake and Mt. Bieidake. The Mt. Tokachidake is an active volcano with an altitude of 2077 m, and is one of 100 famous mountains in Japan or 100 famous mountains with beautiful flowers in Japan. The mountain is well-known for seeing rare animals such as Pika or various flowers such as Wild Rosemary, and a trail is built from the trailhead to the mountaintop. The time it takes to make a round trip on foot is from 5 to 6 hours. It is said that superb views can be seen on the mountaintop. I try to hike it because the trail is easy to hike by beginners. But hikers should beware of bears or volcanic gas.
Without hiking, 360-degree view such as the Tokachidake Mountain Range, plain fields of Furano or the Biei can be enjoyed, and some unmelted snow still remaining the mountain in an early summer and fall foliage in an autumn are beautiful. Rumbling rocks are good, too. In addition, starry sky is very beautiful, too, and some people stay to see the view at the their cars. But beware of the bears, too.
