April 22nd, 2016
Kadoya (角屋) is a noodle‐making factory in Bibai city located in the northeastern part of Sapporo city, and was founded as Takashi Noodle-makinf Factory in 1956. They make buckwheat noodles and ramen noodles, and also run restraunts, and are a community-based company. Speaking of the Kadoya, Bibai Fried Noodles (美唄焼きそば) called the comfort foods of the Bibai is famous, and have been sold since 1970. It has a lot of fans not only in the Bibai but also all over the Japan. The Bibai Fried Noodles are bought at Coa Bibai (コアビバイ) or Antenna Shop PiPa, and so on.
The bibai means "A place with a lot of fresh-water mussel" in Ainu language, and is pronounced "pipa-o-i". Speaking of the Bibai, Bibai Grilled Chicken Giblets on Skewer (美唄焼き鳥) is also famous. Some restraunts serve the grilled chicken on skewer in the Bibai. As for tasty restaurants in the Bibai, Yakitori Tatsumi (やき鳥 たつみ), Sobadokoro Shoan (そば処匠庵), Sugiura Bakery (すぎうらベーカリー), Fukuyoshi (福よし) and Cafe Stoven (カフェ ストウヴ) are popular in particular. I ate foods at the Yakitori Tatsumi and the Sugiura Bakery, and those were tasty. By the way, Famous tourist attractions in the Bibai are Miyajima Swamp (宮島沼), ARTE PIAZZA BIBAI (アルテピアッツァ美唄), Tomei Park (東名公園), Bibai Onsen (美唄温泉).

Miyajima Swamp (宮島沼) is a small swamp in Bibai city located in the northeastern of Sapporo city and is the thirteenth wetland designed as the Ramsar Convention Wetland in Japan, and the perimeter of the swamp is about 2.7 km. It is famous as the largest and northernmost wild goose's temporary resting place in Japan. Migratory birds such as Wild Goose, Bean Goose, Whistling Swans come flying in a spring and an autumn, and 60,000 wild birds stay at the Miyajima Swamp, tops. The wild bird's silhouettes are cheered up by the morning sun with reddish light, and a scenery that the wild birds fly away (ねぐら立ち) is very mysterious. Actually, I was impressed very much. Bibai Fried Noodles
The Bibai Fried Noodles seem to be devised to fill stomaches of workers in coal mine town "Bibai". It is called "Sacked Fried Noodles (袋入り焼きそば)", too, and even people with dirty fingers can eat it. Conversely, people can eat directly the Bibai Fried Noodles from a package without geting their fingers dirty. It is also popular among growing children with a good appetite. The Bibai Fried Noodles has 3 types of tastes, Reproduction of Bibai Fried Noodles (復刻版焼きそば), Coal Bibai Fried Noodles (石炭焼きそば) and Salt Bibai Fried Noodles (塩やきそば). I bought 1 Coal Bibai Fried Noodles and 1 Reproduction of Bibai Fried Noodles at the Coa Bibai. Each prices were JPY 108.
I could eat directly the Bibai Fried Noodles from the package, but it seemed to be more tasty if it was warmed up, so I decided to go home, and eat the Bibai Fried Noodles. I took fried noodles out of the package and dished up, and I warmed up the fried noodles at a microwave. A sauce aroma was adrift, and stimulated my appetite. I ate the Reproduction of Bibai Fried Noodles first. The taste was like a good old school lunch. Sweet sauces reminded me of childhood even more.
Then I ate the Coal Bibai Fried Noodles. These black noodles are colored with vegetable carbon not coal. The appearance looked a bizarre food, but the taste was same as the Reproduction of Bibai Fried Noodles, and its color was just different. I was stuffed very much although I was fulled with 1 dish of the Bibai Fried Noodles.
