CONTENTS
Baikohken
Baikohken (梅光軒) is a long-established ramen restraunt in Asahikawa city. Mr. Hiroyuki Inoue (井上 弘之) established it in 1969. Ocean corp. runs it, and Mr. Masayuki Inoue (井上 雅之) is a comapny president at present. The Baikohken won the 1st Asahikawa Ramen Grand Prize held by Hokkaido Economy (第1回北海道経済旭川ラーメン大賞), and was given the MICHELIN PLATE by MICHELIN Hokkaido 2017 Special Edition. A lot of customers come to the popular ramen restraunt. The head office is along Asahikawa Heiwa Street Shopping Park (旭川平和通買物公園) along Asahikawa Station, and branch restraunts open a business in the Asahikawa, Sapporo, New Chitose Airport, Marunouchi, Chiba and Tomigusuku. In addition, they also have overseas ramen restaurant as well as the Japan, and some branch ramen restaurants open a business in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam and United States. Except those, family lines run some Baikoken in the Asahikawa.

My visited place is the head office on the 1st basement floor of Kaimono Koen Piaza Bldg (買物公園ピアザビル). The ramen restraunt is large, and the interior decoration is relatively new. I guess that outstanding red color depicts the color of Ume blossoms. * Bai (梅) means "Ume *Japanese apricot" in Japanese. Counter seats and table seats are provided, so I guess that even family customers enjoy meals. But the head office is crowded with customers at lunchtime. A line is expected.

ASAHIKAWA
Asahikawa (旭川) that about 340,000 people live is the 2nd largest commercial city in Hokkaido, and has flourished as the center of the North Hokkaido area. Woodworks have been prosperous since the old days, and furniture is famous. Because water is clear, a liquor such as sake of Otokoyama (男山) and Godo Shusei (合同酒精) are famous, too. Popular tourist attractions such as Asahiyama Zoo (旭山動物園) and Biei (美瑛) are around the Asahikawa, so a lot of tourists use tourist bases in the North Hokkaido. As for a climate, the Asahikawa is located in Kamikawa Basin, the largest basin in the Hokkaido, so it is hot that temperature rises to 30 degrees C in a summer, and it is cold that temperature falls to -25 degrees C in a winter, and it snow very hard, too. So a winter festival using the snow is famous. Read More

Ramen of Hokkaido
Ramen is a noodle soup dish topped with ingredients. It is said that Chinese noodles is the root of the ramen, and there are various theories, for example, Mr. Mistukuni Tokugawa (徳川光圀 * Mitokomon (水戸黄門)) ate the ramen in 1697 for the first time in Japan or the first ramen was that Keitaimen noodles (経帯麺) served in 1488 was written in Biryueken Diary (蔭涼軒日録). Noodle soup dishes were spread out in Japan because Nanking noodles (南京そば) was served in various China Towns, Japan. In Hakodate with a China Town, Yowaken (養和軒) served the Nanking noodles in 1884. In Sapporo, it is a root of Sapporo Ramen that a noodle soup dish was cooked by Mr. Wang Wen Zai (王 文彩), a chief chef of Takeya Shokudo (竹家食堂), in 1922. Houran (芳蘭), a branch of the Takeya Shokudo, opened a business in 1933 in Asahikawa. Asahikawa Ramen, Sapporo Ramen and Hakodate Ramen called the 3 Major Ramen in Hokkaido were born. Soy Sauce Broth Ramen with Vegetables
I visited here around 17:00 on a weekday. In spite of such hour, 5 groups of visitors already enjoyed their meals. The Baikohken Head Office was popular after all. I sat at a counter seat, and asked a waitress about ramen restraunt's recommendation. She replied "Soy Sauce Broth Ramen (醤油ラーメン)". But the Soy Sauce Broth Ramen had some types, so I could not decide because each types of the ramen looked so good. After thinking it over for a while, I ordered the Soy Sauce Broth Ramen with Vegetables (野菜醤油ラーメン). The price was JPY 930.

About 10 minutes later, the Soy Sauce Broth Ramen with Vegetables was served. Bamboo shoot, green pepper, carrots, chinese cabbage, onion, bean sprouts and green onions were on noodles. A large helping of the vegetables suprised me. Besides, the vegetables were large, and the bamboo shoots were large, too.

I had a sip of soup immediately. The soup using double soup mixed pork bone broth with fishery products (kombu and small dried sardine) broth was rich taste. I felt that the soup was salty first, but I gradually ate it and enjoyed eating. Whitish homemade noodles went well with the soup. I was full because of a large portion of the ramen. Thanks for the tasty ramen!

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
