Lake Akan (阿寒湖) is a caldera lake in the northern part of Kushiro city, and the Akan means "Immovable" in Ainu language. In Akan Mashu National Park, the perimeter of the lake is about 25.9 km. The maximum water depth is 45 m. The lake is well-known for growing Lake Ball (Marimo). Old Lake Akan was dammed by eruptions of Mt. Oakandake (雄阿寒岳) 10,000 years ago, and 3 lakes, the Lake Akan, Lake Panketo (パンケトー) and Lake Penketo (ペンケトー) were born. Trees such as Yezo spruce, Abies sachalinensis, Painted maple and Mongolian oak grow naturally around the lake, and the lake side is covered with the primeval forest. 24 types of wild animals such as Brown bear and Yezo deer and 65 types of wild birds such as Black woodpecker inhabit, and the lake has been designed as a wetland under the Ramsar Convention since 2005. Akan Grilled Venison Rice Bowl
The restraunt had an atomosphere such as a typical good old restraunt at tourist spots. A lot of table seats were provided, so I guess that even family customers enjoy their meals. I took a window seat, and ordered the Akan Grilled Venison Rice Bowl without delay. The price was JPY 1100. Yezo deer was used for meat. The Lake Akan was famous for a yezo deer dish. By the way, it was very beautiful scenery when I looked at the Lake Akan from the restaurant. This view was one of good points of the restaurant.
About 10 minutes later, the Akan Grilled Venison Rice Bowl was served. Rice was topped with a fried venison on a skewer, a grilled venison on a skewer and lettuce rolls with seasoned ground venison. There was no smell like beasts when I ate it. In fact, when I ate the venison before, I felt that venison was not tasty because there was the smell of the beast. Therefore it was unexpected. The taste of the venison resembled horsemeat. When I ate the rice mixed with the seasoned ground venison, and sweetness spread over in my mouth. Because it is a problem of Hokkaido to increase consumption of the venison, everybody, please eat tasty.
