[21th Century Mori-no-Yu in Asahikawa] Day Trip Onsen Can Be Enjoyed for JPY 100 at Simple Bathing Facility
21th Century Woods
21th Century Woods (21世紀の森) is a forest park in the eastern part of Asahikawa city, and has opened as the Asahikawa resident's place for relaxation and refreshment since 1985. It is far away from the center of the Asahikawa, and is close to Biei and Higashikagura. Lands around Lake Pepan (ペーパン湖) are roughly divided into 5 zones, Residential Workshop Zone (宿泊研修ゾーン), Creek Interacting Open Space (せせらぎ交流広場), Mutual Friendship Open Space (ふれあい広場), Family Zone (ファミリーゾーン), Niipe(21) Woods Nature-Based Experience Zone (ニイペの森 自然体験ゾーン), and Mori-no-Yu (森の湯) is at the Family Zone. A lot of campers use here, the Mori-no-Yu is a popular bathing facility for free. * It has changed to a paid bathing facility since April, 2020.
A direct bus does not run between Sapporo or New Chitose Airport and the Arashiyama Observation Deck. But High Speed Asahikawa-go (高速あさひかわ号) and Express Nayoro-go (高速なよろ号), express buses, runs between the Asahikawa and the Sapporo, and Taisetsu Liner (たいせつライナー), an express bus, runs between the Asahikawa and the New Chitose Airport, and Sunrise Asahikawa-Kushiro-go (サンライズ旭川・釧路号), an express bus, runs between the Asahikawa and Kushiro, and Limited Express Sekihoku-go (特急石北号), an express bus, runs between the Kitami and Asahikawa, and "North Liner-go (ノースライナー号)", an express bus, runs between the Asahikawa and Obihiro.
Asahikawa (旭川) that about 340,000 people live is the 2nd largest commercial city in Hokkaido, and has flourished as the center of the North Hokkaido area. Woodworks have been prosperous since the old days, and furniture is famous. Because water is clear, a liquor such as sake of Otokoyama (男山) and Godo Shusei (合同酒精) are famous, too. Popular tourist attractions such as Asahiyama Zoo (旭山動物園) and Biei (美瑛) are around the Asahikawa, so a lot of tourists use tourist bases in the North Hokkaido. As for a climate, the Asahikawa is located in Kamikawa Basin, the largest basin in the Hokkaido, so it is hot that temperature rises to 30 degrees C in a summer, and it is cold that temperature falls to -25 degrees C in a winter, and it snow very hard, too. So a winter festival using the snow is famous. Read More
List of Day Trip Onsen
The visitors can take a day trip bath only at the 21th Century Mori-no-Yu.
21th Century Mori-no-Yu
21th Century Mori-no-Yu is a simple bathing facility for the campers, and a log‐house-style building is built in the very back of the 21th Century Woods. A building manager hut is built in front of the bathing facility, and is well-kept clean. In addition, a gazebo is built near the log‐house-style building. But a lot of gnats and flies fly in a summer. An entrance fee to the bath facility is JPY 100. A parking lot is free of charge.
There is 1 indoor bath at the building. As for water temperature on that day, the indoor bath for men was 39.1 C, and the indoor bath for women was 38.8 C. Those are suitable for bathing. The public bathhouse surrounded by wooden boards is not so large, and it is a little dark, but the ceiling is relatively high, and the bathhouse is well-kept clean that you would not think that it was free of charge. The indoor bath is the size that about 6 people can take a bath, and hot springs are always overflowing for the bath. I enjoyed the hot springs with an ample supply of water.
The hot springs are sodium and calcium sulfate spring, and are clear and colorless and have tasteless and no smell. The chlorinated hot springs are not drinkable. Using a shampoo and a soap is not allowed. A restroom is at a dressing room.
