[Shiobetsu Onsen in Kitami] Day Trip Bath and Smooth and Slippery Touch Can Be Enjoyed at Shiobetsu Tsurutsuru Onsen Ryokan

Shiobetsu Onsen
Shiobetsu Onsen (塩別温泉) is a hot spring place in Rubeshibe-cho, Kitami city located in the northwest part of Kitami city, and is adjacent to North Daisetsu Area, Daisetuzan National Park. Taki-no-Yu Onsen (滝の湯温泉) is a mark along Kitami National Route (北見国道 * National Route 39), and visitors turn and go straight for around 700 m, and the end of the road is the Shiobetsu Onsen. Only Shiobetsu Tsurutsuru Onsen Ryokan (旅館塩別つるつる温泉) is built at about 360 above sea level there. Unfortunately, restraunts, cafes, souvenir shops and convenience stores are not built. It takes about 30 minutes from the center of Rubeshibe (留辺蘂) to here by car. The Shiobetsu Tsurutsuru Onsen Ryokan surrounded by trees and fields is not in a mountain, and is near a park golf course, Kitami Fuji Cart Circuit (北見富士カートサーキット) and Rubeshibe Development Hall (留辺蘂町開拓資料館).

It is the origin of the Shiobetsu Onsen that Mr. Kiuemon Kunisawa (国沢喜右衛門) analyzed hot springs here in 1901, and here was named Shiobetsu because of detecting salt content * Salt means Shio (塩) in Japanese. After a while, Nomura Kogyo Itomuka Mine built a recreation facility in 1950. After abandoned the mine, the Shiobetsu Tsurutsuru Onsen Ryokan has opened a buisness since 1970. There are Onneyu Onsen (おんねゆ温泉), Road Station "Onneyu Onsen" (道の駅おんねゆ温泉), Yamano Aquarium (山の水族館), Norh Fox Ranch (北きつね牧場), Onneyu Kokusai Country Club (温根湯国際カントリークラブ), Tsutsuji Park (つつじ公園) and Tsutsuji Park Campsite (つつじ公園キャンプ場) around here. In addition, this district is an white runner bean‐producing center, and White Runner Bean Mousse (白花豆ムース) is famous, too. By the way, nonstop buses do not run from Sapporo or New Chitose Airport.
Yamano Aquarium
Yamano Aquarium (山の水族館) is a small aquarium built at roadside station "Onneyu Onsen (おんねゆ温泉)" near Onneyu Onsen (温根湯温泉) in Rubeshibe, Kitami city and was renewed in 2012 and became a popular aquarium, and 300,000 tourists come. Mr. Hajime Nakamura (中村元), only aquarium producers in Japan, designed it. There are 9 exhibit spaces in total, and the world's first freezing glass tank and a glass tank that the Japan's first basin of a waterfall is looked up are especially famous. Tourists can observe more than 50 kinds of fishes, and a large glass tank that 40 Itou fishes with more than 1 m in length swim is extremely powerful. Admission is charged. Daisetsuzan National Park
Daisetsuzan National Park (大雪山国立公園) is the largest national park of 226,763.56 ha in Japan. A mountain named Daisetsuzan does not exist, and the whole area including the mountains with over 2,000 m above sea level such as Mt. Asahidake (旭岳), the highest mountain in Hokkaido, Mt. Kurodake (黒岳), Mt. Aibestudake (愛別岳), Mt. Tomuraushi (トムラウシ山) is collectively called "Daisetsuzan". A right notation is "Daisetsuzan", but local people often call "Taisetsuzan". For a vast area, Daisetsuzan National Park roughly divide into 4 areas, Omote Daisetu Area (表大雪エリア * Front Daisetsu Area), North Daisetsu Area (北大雪エリア), East Daisetsu Area (東大雪エリア * Back Daisestu Area), Tokachirenpo Area (十勝連峰エリア). Daisetsuzan is called Kamuimintara in Ainu language and means "The garden that gods have a good time (神々の遊ぶ庭)". Tourists can enjoy a just magnificent scene. Article is here

White Runner Bean Mousse
Fujiya Confectionery (ふじや菓子舗) is a long-established confectionary in Onneyu Onsen (温根湯温泉), Rubeshibe-cho located in the western part of Kitami city and was founded in 1932. As for white runner bean, Rubeshibe-cho has been the top produce in Japan. Therefore they has been producing cakes using the white runner bean since the old days. Because I heard that one of the cakes, white runner bean mousse (白花豆ムース) were famous, I visited here to purchase it. The price was JPY 290. Article is here

Day Trip Onsen
Visitors can take a day trip bath at the Shiobetsu Tsurutsuru Onsen Ryokan.
Shiobetsu Tsurutsuru Onsen Ryokan
Shiobetsu Tsurutsuru Onsen Ryokan is a small-sized onsen ryokan surrounded by trees and fields, and has opened a business since 1970, and owns hot spring sources, and is famous for 100% natural free flowing hot springs having an effect for beautiful skin. Nomura Kousan corp runs it. A building was renewed in 2014, so the appearance and the interior decoration are new. An entrance fee to the bath facility is JPY 500. A shop and Restraunt "Shirakaba" (レストラン白樺) are at the building, too, and visitors for day trip bath can use the restraunt. A set of lunch and taking a bath is served for JPY 1000. Tasty meals have a good reputation. A staying is possible, too.

They have 3 buildings, Main Building (本館), Annex Building (別館) and New Building (新館), and there is large public bathhouses named Fudo-no-Yu (不動の湯) at the New Building, and there is public bathrooms named Ryujin-no-Yu (竜神の湯) at the Main Building. Both the bathhouses are gender segregated. Bathers must move from the bathhouse to the bathhouse in wearing their clothes because the bathouses are away from each bathhouses. There are 1 open-air bath, 1 indoor bath, 2 cascading bath, 1 sleeping bath and 1 whirlpool bath at the Fudo-no-Yu. The tiled bathhhouse with a high ceiling and large windows is feeling good.

The open-air bath surrounded by trees is the size that about 14 people can take a bath. The bathers will relax, and can enjoy a sense of openness. Fresh green can be enjoyed in a summer, Fall foliage can be enjoyed in an autumn, and snow can be enjoyed in a winter. By the way, horseflies may prevent you from relaxing in the summer.



The indoor bath along the windows is the size that about 15 people can take a bath. The cascading bath seats 2 person, and the sleeping bath seats 3 person. The whirlpool bath is the size that about 4 people can take a bath. All the baths use free flowing hot springs.

Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathhouse. A restroom, free hair dryers and a drinking hot spring facility are installed at a dressing room of the Fudo-no-Yu. The hot springs are drinkable, and it does not taste, and has a slighly sulfur smell. It is said that the hot springs have an effect for Diabetes, Gout and Constipation.

On the other hand, the Ryujin-no-Yu is small tiled bathroom. But it has a lot of windows, so sunny bathroom is feeling good. There is 1 indoor bath at the bathroom, and it is the size that about 5 people can take a bath, and uses 100% natural free flowing hot springs. A lot of onsen lovers favorite this onsen rather than the Fudo-no-Yu, and the hot springs have stronger smooth and slippery touch than the Fudoh-no-Yu. In addition, there is few bath at the Ryujin-no-Yu, so few bathers come, and you may enjoy the hot springs comfortably. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathhouse. A hair dryer is insatlled at a dressing room of the Ryujin-no-Yu. But there is not a restroom at the dressing room, you should get a wash beforehand at the restroom along a corridor.


The hot springs are simple sulfur spring, and are clear and colorless and have tasteless and a sulfur smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 0.218 g/kg. This onsen is famous as high alkaline hot springs with ph 9.6. The hot springs have very smooth and slippery touch, so you will be surprised if you take a bath. The hot springs seems to have an effect for beautiful skin, too, and are used as hot water of showers and faucets at wash places.
