Yumoto Ryounkaku
Yumoto Ryounkaku is a small-sized long-established onsen ryokan located in the highest place at 1280 m above sea level in Hokkaido, and has been established since 1963, and is one of 18 onsen fasilities that the Japan Association of Secluded Onsen Heritage (日本温泉遺産を守る会) will recognize the hot spring facilities using fresh free flowing hot springs in Hokkaido. Ryounkaku was named after a building exceeding clouds (their brochure introduces the open-air bath as the open-air bath exceeding the clouds), and is famous for Tokachidake Mountain Range from an open-air bath. Visitors come to see the splendid view, and the Ryounkaku is crowded with visitors during fall foliage in particular. Baths use 100% natural free flowing hot springs. An entrance fee to the bath facility is JPY 800. A staying is possible, too, and a lot of hikers use this ryokan, too. Resutraunt "Gaku (岳)" is at a building, too. A lunch bath plan is provided, too, and visitors can enjoy the lunch bath and a meal from 11:00 to 15:00. The plan fee is JPY 1280.

The Ryounkaku is famous for having 2 types of hot springs. One is (1)acidic iron aluminum and calcium sulfate spring, and is clear and colorless and has bitter and sour taste and no smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 1.631 g/kg (ion sulfate content is 893 mg /kg). The other is (2)calcium and sodium sulfate spring, and is opaque and reddish brown and has a little metallic taste and metallic smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 2.084 g/kg (ion sulfate content is 943 mg/kg). It is said that a lot of the ion sulfate content is effective for high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis.

There are 1 open-air bath, 2 indoor baths, 1 whirlpool bath, 1 cold bath and 1 sauna at a large public bathhouse on the 1st basement floor. At first, I took a bath at famous open-air bath. The view of the Tokachidake Mountain Range was too splendid! Because nothing obstruct the view, I could enjoy a sence of openness. I was sure that it was popular. The open-air bath with a two‐layer structure bathtub is the size that about 8 people can take a bath. The hot spring of the upper bathtub is hot, and the hot spring of the lower buthtub is warm. The hot springs are (2) reddish brown color, and graduations of color are different in the upper bathtub and the lower buthtub, too.

Successively I took a bath at the indoor baths. A large rock at the bathhouse caught one's eyes, and the building was built to surround the natural large rock. There are 2 indoor baths that the hot springs are (1)clear and colorless or (2)opaque and reddish brown around the foot of the large rock. The indoor bath with (1) clear and colorless hot spring is the size that about 3 people can take a bath behind the large rock. Because the hot springs seemed to be drinkable, and I drank it out of my hands from a hot springs gushing point, it tasted sour taste such as tonic water. I liked it. It seemed to be effective for Chronic digestive diseases, Anemia, Chronic cholecystitis, Cholelithiasis, Chronic constipation, Obesity disease, Diabetes and Gout.

The indoor bath with (2) red-brown hot spring is the size that about 6 people take a bath. The mossed rock looked like a nature rock. Because the hot springs seemed to be drinkable, too, and I drank it out of my hands from a hot springs gushing point, it tasted soil-like taste. It was not good, so I was not able to drink a lot. This seemed to be effective for Chronic cholecystitis, Cholelithiasis, Chronic constipation, Obesity disease, Diabetes and Gout. The whirlpool bath with heated cold spring of Mt. Tokachidake is the size that 2 people can take a bath. The cold bath is used the cold spring of the Mt. Tokachidake. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathhouse. In addition, a restroom and free hair dryers are installed at a dressing room, too.

In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
