Huge Wisteria Is Said That Oldest Wisteria in Hokkaido -Hiragishi Tenjin Wisteria in Sapporo-
June 2nd, 2015
Tenjin Wisteria (天神ふじ) is located in Hiragishi, Toyohira ward, Sapporo city and is planted at Mr. Yamagiwa's resident premises next to Tenjinyama Green Park (天神山緑地). Wisteria is in full bloom from late May to mid June, it is opened to general public for a limited time. Therefore I visited here. * Tenjin Wisteria is donated to Sapporo city in 2016 and seems to become a part of Tenjinyama Green Park (天神山緑地). Branches of Wisteria tree have grown and covered a parking lot of about 64 m2 completely. Iron columns support the heavy branches. A length around trunk seems to be about 2 m.
This tree is about 200 year-old and seems to be the oldest Wisteria in Hokkaido. This wisteria was brought from Honshu 200 years ago to put it on a bonsai. I am surprised that it has really grown. Admission free. Visitors seem to use a parking lot of Tanjinyama Ryokuchi.
