June 2nd, 2015
Tenjinyama Park (天神山緑地) is located in Hiragishi, Toyohira ward, Sapporo city. There is Mt. Tenjinyama with an altitude of about 90 meters along National Route 453, and Tenjin Wisteria (天神藤), Soma Shrine (相馬神社), Taiheizan Miyoshi Shrine (太平山三吉神社), Sapporo Tenjinyama Art Studio (さっぽろ天神山アートスタジオ) and Jaoanese-style Garden (日本庭園) are on the site. The Mt. Tenkjinyama used to be a fort built by Ainu people, and a view is good, too. There are vestiges of the fort now. The Tenjin Wisteria is donated to Sapporo city by Mr. Akihiro Yamagiwa (山際廣昭) that lived at the foot of Mt. Tenjinyama in 2016 , and become a part of the Tenjinyama Park. 300 cherry trees such as double cherry trees and Yezo mountain cherry trees are planted, so pink flowers and purple flowers can be enjoyed from a spring to an early summer. This park is a relaxing place that local people enjoy themselves in a city. Admission free.
The Tenjinyama Park is near Sumikawa or Nakanoshima, so there are some popular ramen restaurants around here. Sapporo Junren Head Office (さっぽろ純連 札幌本店) is at the foot of the Mt. Tenjinyama, and Men Eiji Hiragishi Base (麺eiji平岸ベース), Yamaarashi Head Office (山嵐 本店), Sumire Sapporo Head Office (すみれ 札幌本店) and Garyumenbu Hien (我流麺舞 飛燕) are relatively near here. I ate ramen at the Sapporo Junren Head Office, the Men Eiji Hiragishi Base, the Sumire Sapporo Head Office and the Garyumenbu Hien. Those were tasty.
Sapporo Junren Head Office
Sapporo Junren Head Office (さっぽろ純連本店) is a popular ramen restraunt in Hiragishi, Toyohira ward, Sapporo city. The nearest station is Sumikawa Subway Station and customers need to walk a little from the station. This ramen restraunt's miso broth ramen has a long history. It was founded in 1964. I ate the Sumire's (すみれ) miso broth ramen yesterday and visited to eat the Junren's miso broth ramen. Mrs. Akiko Muranaka is a founder, and her eldest son opened Junren and her third son opened Sumire, famous ramen restraunt. Collectively, they are called Junsumi-kei type (純すみ系). There are a parking lot in front of a building and on the opposite side of a road, and the third parking lot seems to be provided. Article is here

Garyumenbu Hien (我流麺舞飛燕) is a popular ramen restraunt near the jcho hokkaido hospital (JCHO北海道病院) in Nakanoshima, Toyohira ward, Sapporo city and was founded in 2010. I visited here around 14:00 on weekdays. There were 3 groups of customers at the ramen restraunt at such time. Then, 2 groups of visitors came in, and this restraunt was popular after all. The customers seems to form a line at lunch time. The ramen restraunt was small but cozy and had counter seats, tables and a raised seating place, so a family customer seems to enjoy. Hien uses a meal ticket system, and the customers must buy a meal ticket first. I bought the Salty Chicken Broth Ramen with Fish Powder (魚介鶏塩白湯), a most popular ramen, and the price was JPY 750. I bought large serving of noodles, too, and the price was JPY 100. Hien Ramen seems to be popular, too. Article is here
Sumire Sapporo Head Office
I visited here around 13:00 on weekdays. Timing might make customers change and there were a few csutomers at a building. The building was new and the appearance of the building and interior decoration were fresh. I sat at a counter seat and read a menu, and I ordered miso broth ramen (味噌ラーメン). The price is JPY 870. By the way, walls were covered by cards for autographs, and I was overwhelmed on that situation. Approximately 15 minutes later, the miso broth ramen was served. While waiting for the ramen, a lot of customers came to the ramen restraunt one after another. I was thinking of visiting here more later, I was happy to visit around 13:00. Article is here
Tenjin Wisteria at the foot of the Mt. Tenjinayama is open to the general public only during flowering season (from mid May to early June), and I visited here. This tree is about 200 year-old, and it is said to be the oldest wisteria in Hokkaido. This wisteria was brought from Honshu 200 years ago to put it on a bonsai, and I am surprised at growing big. Admission free. Visitors seem to park their cars at a parking lot of the Tanjinyama Park. By the way, a small shrine is built on the site, too.
A length around trunk seems to be about 2 m, and branches of Wisteria tree have grown and covered a parking lot of about 64 m2 completely, and iron columns support the heavy branches. Flowers like a bunch of grapes with about 30 cm in height droop here and there. Excellent flowers and large tree is worth seeing. In addition, various trees such as azalea beside the wisteria, so a conbination of the purple flowers and other color flowers is good, too.
Origin of Name
This Tenjin Wisteria is over 150 years-old, and is the oldest wisteria in Hokkaido. Predecessors that settled to develop the Hokkaido brought the wisteria on the bonsai from Honshu, and planted it here. It has grown and made beautiful flowers bloom on a wisteria trellis of about 64 m2 every year while weathering. Mr. Yosaku Harada (原田与作), the mayor of the Sapporo, came to name the marvelous wisteria as Tenjin Wisteria in 1969. On a fine day in June, 1970.
