Taisetsu Kogen Onsen
Taisetsu Kogen Onsen (大雪高原温泉) is a hot spring place in Kamikawa town in the southeastern part of Asahikawa city. Taisetsu-Kogen-so (大雪高原山荘) is built at 1260 m above sea level in a mountain of Omote Daisetsu Area, Daisetuzan National Park. The distance is around 25 km far away from Sounkyo Onsen (層雲峡温泉). There are Brown Bear Information Center (ヒグマ情報センター) and Forest Patrol Kogen Base (森林パトロール高原事務所) around here, and Daisetsu Kogen Onsen Hiking Tour (大雪高原温泉沼めぐりコース) that is famous for beautiful fall foliage is built, too. Ginsendai (銀泉台) that is famous for beautiful fall foliage and Lake Taisetsu (大雪湖) are relatively near here, too.
It is the origin of the Taisetsu Kogen Onsen that a worker of formerly Kokusaku Pulp corp (Nippon Paper corp) found a hot spring source, and built a Kogen Hut (高原ヒュッテ) in 1959. After that, it was shutted down, and Taisetsu Kogen Hotel (大雪高原ホテル) opened a business in 1963, and its name was renamed "Taisetsu-Kogen-so", and up to now. By the way, visitors must drive for about 10 km on a gravel road named "Yanbetappu Forest Road" with one traffic lane to arrive at the Taisetsu-Kogen-so. Please be careful about brown bears because here is a nest of brown bears. A hunter told me that the visitors seem to be careful about quite a few accidents to deer suddenly rushing out in front of cars, too. In addition, around here is not out of signal area.

Ginsendai with Fall Foliage
Ginsendai (銀泉台) in Kamikawa town located in the southeastern part of Asahikawa city is a trailhead for Mt. Akadake near Sounkyo Onsen in the southern part of Kamikawa town. If tourists take a narrow gravel road for about 14 km in length from Japan National Route 273 to Ginsendai, the tourists reach to the Ginsendai. But visitors must pay scrupulous attention to driving because large sightseeing buses run, too. Actually, I encountered a car with a trouble (A mobile phone is out of coverage area). In addition, traffic regulations enforce during high seasons of fall foliage, and the tourists must use shuttle buses from lake-side (レイクサイド) to the Ginsendai. There are a forest patrol office, a parking lot, a restroom and a watering place in the trailhead of the Ginsendai. Wild flowers are in full bloom in July, and the fall foliage is the best season to see in mid September. The tourists increase at those seasons. Article is here

There is the lake just near Sounkyo. Taisetsu Dam is the only dam in the main stream of Ishikari River and is located in the most upstream of the Ishikari River. It is a multipurpose rock-fill dam with 86.5 m in height and 440 m in length. Candy Trouts and Dolly Varden Trouts (オショロコマ) inhabit in the lake, and many fishing visitors come. In addition, dam cards are distributed in the Taisetsu Dam Management Branch (大雪ダム管理支所), too. Article is here
List of Day Trip Onsen
Visitors can take a day trip bath at the Taisetsu-Kogen-so.
Taisetsu-Kogen-so is a small-sized onsen inn runb by Nippon Paper Group, and is well-known for opening a business only for 123 days. Business season is from June to October, and hikers mainly use it, but a lot of onsen fans come to take a bath, too. An entrance fee to a bath facility is JPY 700. A staying is possible, too. A restraunt is at the building, too, and visitors for day trip bath can use the restraunt from 11:30 to 13:00.
There are 1 open-air bath and 1 indoor bath at a public bathroom. The bathrooms for men or women are replaced every day. The bathroom with wood boards and a high ceiling is slightly dark but cozy. The indoor bath is the size that about 8 people can take a bath, and uses 100% natural free flowing hot springs. The hot springs poured into the bath from a hot spring gushing out point called (クマゴロー). * The kuma means Bear in English, and the goro is common name, and the hot springs overflowed successively from the bath. Free flowing fresh hot springs are luxurious. I felt very interesting that white flowers of sulphur dance in the hot springs.
The open-air bath is the size that about 5 people can take a bath, and uses 100% natural free flowing hot springs. Water temperature is more slightly cold than the indoor bath, and it is suitable for taking a long bath. Bathers can enjoy a good sense of openness. The open-air bath is surrounded by blindfold fences, but there is not a roof, the visiotrs will feel like close to a sky. Because I took a bath while looking at mountains of the Daisetsuzan, it was very comfortable. I think that starry sky is beautiful in the evening.
The hot springs are simple acidic spring, and are milky white and have acidulous and sulfur smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 0.356 g/kg. Because the hot springs seemed to be drinkable, the taste was not bad when I drank the hot springs that gushed out from the Kumagoro. The drinking hot springs are effective for Chronic digestive diseases. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathroom. A free hair dryer is installed at a dressing room. There is not a restroom at the dressing room. You should get a wash beforehand at the restroom along a corridor.
