I Am Surprised at Imagawa-yaki with Cheese Flavor -Takahashi Manjuya in Obihiro-
September 28th, 2014
Takahashi Manjuya (高橋まんじゅう屋) is a long-established manju shop in Obihiro city and was founded in 1953. This shop is loved by many local people. I heard that Imagawa-yaki (今川焼き * Japanese muffin containing sweet bean jam served hot) was famous, and I visited here. The Imagawa-yaki had 2 kinds of flavor, Sweet Bean Jam Flavor and Cheese Flavor. The price was JPY 100 per one. Because those could be eaten at the shop, I ate those at the shop. Water and tea were served by self-service.
As for Imagawa-yaki crust, the outside was hard and the inside was moisty. The sweet bean jam made from adzuki beans produced in Tokachi was not too sweet. By the way, I was surprised at the Imagawa-yaki with cheese flavor. "チーズ" meant cheese in Japanese was written on the surface of the crust, but that was no the only one. I imagined the sweet cheese to go well with the sweetness of Imagawa-yaki crust. However, it was salty when I ate it. But it went well with Imagawa-yaki crust. I saw that Takahashi Manjuya was popular because it was tasty.
