[Samani Dam] One of Famous Places for Cherry Blossoms in Hidaka District
Samani Dam (様似ダム) is a gravity-type concrete dam in Samani town located in the northwestern direction of Cape Erimo (えりも岬). Its height is 44 m. The water surface is 0.44 km2. Lake Samani (様似湖) was born by building the dam in 1975. The Samani Dam has a sloping fishway with a part of glass, and visitors can see the sloping fishway from the side. In addition, the Samani Dam is a famous place for cherry blossoms in Hidaka district. The best time to see the cherry blossoms is about from early May to mid May. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge.
A camping ground is at the site, too, and the visitors can enjoy the camp. Few campers visit here, so it seems to be a little‐known good place. A temporary restroom and a common kitchen are built. But water of the common kitchen is not drinkable. The distance is about 8 km away from the center of the Samani, and restaurants, cafes and convenience stores are not built near here. Speaking of tasty restaurant in the Samani, Ominaeshi (女郎花) is popular in particular.
By the way, a highway bus "Kosoku Erimo-go (高速えりも号)" runs between Sapporo and Erimo and the Samani.

Cherry Blossoms of Samani Dam Park
The foot of the Samani Dam is developed as Samani Dam Park (様似ダム公園), and cherry trees such as Yezo Mountain Cherry (エゾヤマザクラ) and Yoshino Cherry (ソメイヨシノ) are planted. Maybe, the number is about 100. The site is not large. Because the dam is close to the cherry trees, I think that here is a photogenic place. It takes less than 30 minutes to look around on foot.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
