Large and Tasty Pork Steak -Ukifune in Honbetsu-

Ukifune (浮舟) is a popular restraunt in Honbetsu town located in the northeast part of Obihiro city. This restaurant is famous for large pork steak and placing in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. Ms. Kon recommended this restraunt, so I visited here. Lunchtime is from 11:30 to 14:00 and dinnertime is from 17:00 to 19:00. It is a regular closing day on Sunday.

I was not in time for lunchtime, I visited here for dinnertime. To my delight it opened 5 minutes before a business hour. The restraunt had an atomosphere such as a good old local Japanese restraunt. There were many tables and family customers seem to enjoy. I sat at the table and ordered the pork steak (とんてき) at once. The price was JPY 1,700.

While preparing for the cooking, I asked an owner about the large pork steak . He replied "It is the size that the customers can eat the pork steak deliciously. Tasty is very important." He said successively "A certain woman ate 2 garlic pork steaks (にんにく焼き)". It would not be an extremely large size so that people said.

Approximately 25 minutes later, the pork steak was served. Indeed, it was large pork. The pork had thickness of approximately 3 cm and length of approximately 12 cm. I felt the tasty smell with burnt demiglace sauce. The pork steak was cooked medium. Meat juice came out and pork was tender. Unexpectedly, It was not fatty and was light taste. 40 years passed after he started business. This taste seemed to spread among the world for approximately 10 years. By the word of mouth of riders, high reputation spread over.
