Highest Alkaline Hot Spring with Ph 10 in Hokkaido -Osoushi Onsen Shikanoyuso in Shintoku-
November 22nd, 2015
Osoushi Onsen (オソウシ温泉) is in Shintoku town located in the southwest of Obihiro city and Shikanoyuso, only 1 hotel is opened and was founded in 1978. It is famous as the highest alkaline hot spring in Hokkaido.
There is a building in the heart of the mountain, and visitors will go along a rough road for 7 km. Drive carefully because the rough road is a narrow road. A Japanese Akita named Ken came to welcome when I arrived at Shikanoyuso. He barked very much, but an owner's wife said that he did not bite. He plays a role as a watchdog effectively. A building is old, but it has cleaness because it is cleaned well.
There are 2 indoor baths, 1 open-air bath and 1 mixed bathing open-air bath at a bathhouse. The indoor baths have hot springs with adding heat and the raw hot spring of hot spring source, and water temperature of the raw hot spring is 26.9 C and it can be argued that it is a cold bath. The indoor bath with adding heat is the size that abou 7 peopel seem to take a bath and the raw indoor bath is the size that about 2 peopel seem to take a bath. The owner's wife said that you should take the cold bath after waring your body at the indoor bath with adding heat.
The hot springs are simple sulfur spring, and are clear and colorless and have neither taste nor smell. The hot springs are alkaline (ph 10) and it has very slippery and smooth touch. The hot springs of the bathhouse did not seem to be suitable for drinking, and drinkable hot springs were served at a corridor. I drunk it at Japanese resting room and the taste was like cross eggs and sulfur. It seems to be good for diabetes, gout and constipation. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 0.235 g. The customers seem not to feel dizzy very much after taking a long bath.
In addition, the open-air baths are not cleaned and are closed in a winter, but the customers can take the open-air baths. The open-air bath is the size that about 6 peopel seem to take a bath. The hot spring of the open-air bath was cold when I took a bath, but the customers can bath the hot spring in a summer. The mixed bathing open-air bath is the size that about 10 peopel seem to take a bath. There is a tower that the raw hot spring of the hot spring source is collected around the mixed bathing open-air bath and the raw hot spring is gushing out from there. Osoushi River flows in front of my eyes and a view is nice. It give me a feeling of openness, but the hot spring is very cold in a winter. Visitors can stay, too.
