March 19th, 2014

Notsuke Onsen

Notsuke Onsen (野付温泉) is a hot spring place in Betsukai town located in the other side of Notsuke Peninsula (野付半島). Hama-no-Yu (浜の湯) is built in the center of the Odaito, and there are a boarding point, restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, bars with a surcharge, Izakaya and a convenience store there. Nakashibetsu is relatively near here, and here is easy access to Nemuro Nakashibetsu Airport, too.

A famous tourist attraction near here is Notsuke Peninsula. It is well-known for Todowara and Narawara. Fishing Hokkai Shrimp (北海シマエビ) with using Utase Ship (打瀬舟) is a seasonal event in a summer or an autumn, and Odaito Shrimp Festtival (尾岱沼えびまつり) is held in late June. By the way, specialties in the Bekkai are seafood and milk. Local dishes are Bekkai Jumbo Scallop Hamburger (別海ジャンボホタテバーガー) and Bekkai Jumbo Sakhalin Surf Clam and Steak (別海ジャンボホッキステーキ丼). I ate the Bekkai Jumbo Scallop Hamburger at Hamanasu (はまなす), and it was tasty.

Notsuke Peninsula

Notsuke Peninsula (野付半島) is a prawn-shaped peninsula. The ground is made of sand, and a sandbar with 26 km in length is the largest sandbar in Japan. It was designed as the Ramsar Convention wetland in 2005. Tourists can enjoy an unusual scenery that there are flowers and the sea on both sides across a road called flower road (フラワーロード). Todowara (トドワラ) that has become a synonym for Notsuke Peninsula is especially famous. Unfortunately almost Todowara has disappeared, but a typical Notsuke Peninsula scenery spreads over because Narawara (ナラワラ) is still left. A sightseeing ship provides a ferrying service between Notsuke Peninsula and Odaito, Betsukai town (別海町尾岱沼), and the tourists can look over Notsuke Peninsula and Odaito on the sea. Article is here

Jumbo Scallop Hamburger of Hamanasu

I visited Hamanasu (はまなす) to eat a jumbo scallop hamburger (ジャンボホタテバーガー), Betsukai local dish. Hamanasu is a popular restraunt in Betsukai town and opened a business at only lunchtime. It is famous for a large helping of meals in particular, and a chicken cutlet combo is most popular. Article is here

Hama-no-Yu

Hama-no-Yu is a public bath founded in 1987, and is famous for enjoyeing high quality fresh hot springs. My schedule was always at odds, and I visited 4 times, and my wishe came true! When I visited here around 17:00 on weekdays, 2 local people took a bath. But they went home soon, and I enjoyed myself at baths alone. The appearance and the interior decoration are old, so it is not suitable for you if you do not like an old facility. An entrance fee to the bath facility is JPY 440.
