Niseko (ニセコ) is popular big resort by oversea tourists such as Australia and Hong Kong. 1,500,000 people visit. As well as Niseko town (ニセコ町), Kutchan town (倶知安町), Kyogoku town (京極町), Makkari village (真狩村), Kimobetsu town (喜茂別町), Kyowa town (共和町), Rankoshi town (蘭越町) are collectively called Niseko. In a winter, tourists can enjoy skiing and snowboarding, and the tourists can enjoy rafting along Shiribetsu River (尻別川) in a summer. The tourists can always enjoy nature of Hokkaido including various onsen and tasty foods in Niseko.
Speaking of Niseko, Winter activities are famous. But summer activities are prosperous, too. Skiing, snowboarding, rafting, a canoe, a hot air balloon, a horse trekking and a bicycle can be enjoyed.
Skiing and Snowboarding
The total amount of snow is world-famous in Niseko. The average snowfall is 15 m, and it was introduced to be the second ski resorts in the world by "Forbes Traveler in 2007". Similarly, Niseko is reported by "New York Times in 2011", too, and a special feature is featured splendor about the snowy quality, hot springs and scenery.
There are 4 ski resorts, "Niseko HANAZONO Ski Resort (ニセコHANAZONOスキー場)", "Niseko Grand Hirafu (ニセコグラン・ヒラフスキー場)", "Niseko village Ski Resort (ニセコビレッジスキー場)", "Niseko Annupuri Kokusai Ski Resort (ニセコアンヌプリ国際スキー場)" around Mt. Niseko Annupuri (ニセコアンヌプリ) with 1308 m in height. 4 ski resorts are collectively called "NISEKO UNITED", and a common lift ticket is sold.
Speaking of Niseko in a summer, rafting of the Shiribetsu River is famous. The Shiribetsu River got the first place in the quality of the water ranking in Japan for 11 consecutive years from 1999 to 2011. The tourists will have a fine feeling when they go down the river with a rubber boat in pure water. The time required is 2-3 hours.
Activities of Four Seasons
Niseko has activities that the tourists can enjoy in four seasons. The tourists can enjoy the rafting in a spring and can enjoy a canoe, a golf, a hot-air balloon and a mooring flight in a summer, there is Pure Activity of the athletic arena facilities that the tourists can play on the equipment among trees by ropes in the Niseko village, too. The tourists can enjoy autumn foliage while trekking in a autumn, and can enjoy skiing, snowboarding and horseback riding in a winter.
In Niseko, it is cold in a winter, and there is plenty of snow. There is abundant clear water for that reason. Much water creates rich natural beauty picturesque sceneries.
Mt. Youtei (羊蹄山) is a volcano with 1898 m in height in Niseko town and is called another name "Ezo Fuji (蝦夷富士)". Of course because its form resembles Mt. Fuji (富士山). Mountain climbings are active, too, and mountaineers climb the mountain from 4 trailhead, Kutchan course, Kyogoku course, Makkari course and Kimobetsu course. The Kutchan course is recommended for a beginner. Generally beginners will reach to the mountaintop that takes from 4 hours to 6 hours.

Shinsen-numa Wetland (神仙沼湿原) and Shinsen-numa Swamp (神仙沼) is at 770 m above sea level are in Kyowa town located in the western part of Sapporo city. Wooden paths are built from Shinsen-numa parking lot to Shinsen-numa Swamp, and visiotrs can arrive at Shinsen-numa Wetland and Shinsen-numa Swamp for approximately 20 minutes, and the paths lead for Naganuma swamp (長沼) halfway is built. The visitors can reach to the Shinsen-numa Wetland and the Shinsen-numa Swamp from Oyachi (大谷地) parking lot, too, and it take approximately 30 minutes. The visitors can see the state that woodland horsetail, the endangered species, grows wild from Oyachi parking lot. The Oyachi parking lot has no facilities, but there is a resting station at Shinsen-numa parking lot, the visitors can take a meal and a break. There is a restroom, too. Article is here

Mishimas Moss Pink
Mishimas Moss Pink (三島さんちの芝桜) is a private garden in Niseko, Kutchan town located in the western part of Sapporo city. Mr. Mishima has been planted the moss pink after retirement from farmer in the early 2000s. The area that the moss pink was planted seems to be 4,000 m2 now. I was really surprised at the area of moss pink very much when I visited here. These flowers are best viewed from late May to mid June. There is no charge for admission. A free parking lot and a restroom are provided, too. Because the garden is thrown open to visitors in his good faith, the visiotrs follow a manner, and let's appreciate the moss pink. Article is here

Oyunuma Pond (大湯沼) is a hot spring bog at the Niseko Yumoto Onsen (ニセコ湯本温泉) in Rankoshi town located in the western part of Sapporo city and is hot spring source of Yumoto Onsen. The circumference of the pond is about 200 m and the 1000 liters of the hot springs per minute are gushing out. Oyunuma Pond was a geyser in old days, but Anglo-Saxon mining company called Howl Company drew sulfur too much in the Meiji period and it was not geyser. Walking paths are built around the pond, and visitors can see the state that the hot springs are gushing out. The visitors can go around for about 10 minutes. Article is here

Spring Water Gushing Places around Mt. Yotei
There is Fukidashi Park (ふきだし公園) in Kyogoku town and is one of "100 Greatest Cold Springs in Japan" selected by the Ministry of the Environment, rain and snow that fell and soak into the underground of Mt. Yotei, the water is flowed out after 50 - 70 years. As well as the Fukidashi Park, Niseko tasty cold spring begins to gush out at Sakamoto Park (坂本公園) of Konbu Onsen (昆布温泉) and Yokouchi Tourist Farm (横内観光農園) of Makkari. Niseko Onsen are dotted around the foot of Mt. Yotei. Those have many secret hot springs and excellent hot springs such as Konbugawa Onsen (昆布川温泉), Konbu Onsen (昆布温泉), Annupuri Onsen (アンヌプリ温泉), Niimi Onsen (新見温泉), Yumoto Onsen (湯本温泉), Goshiki Onsen (五色温泉), Higashiyama Onsen (東山温泉), Hirafu Onsen (比羅夫温泉). Although there are hot springs at the same area, it is one of the pleasures with various types of the hot springs such as Carbonated springs, Sulfuric springs, Chloride springs and Radioactive springs. If the tourists use "Niseko Yumeguri Pass (ニセコ湯巡りパス)", can take a bath at 3 hot spring facilities for JPY 1400 a one piece. This is reasonable ticket !
Niseko Goshiki Onsen
Niseko Goshiki Onsen (ニセコ五色温泉) is a small hot-spring town in Niseko town located in the southwestern part of Sapporo city. There are Goshikinuma Onsen Ryokan (五色温泉旅館), Niseko Yama-no-Ie (ニセコ山の家) and Goshiki Onsen Information Center (五色温泉インフォメーションセンター). Mountain climbers often use a base of Mt. Annupuri (アンヌプリ) and Mt. Iwonupuri (イワオヌプリ). "Goshiki Onsen seems to have 5 types of hot springs" or "Sulfur is mixed with the hot springs, and it looks 5 colors" are origin of the goshiki's name. Goshiki means 5 colors in English. There is much snow in a winter, a road of the Kutchan side is closed to traffic in the winter season (from November to May). Niseko Yumoto Onsen
Niseko Yumoto Onsen (ニセコ湯本温泉) is a hot spring resort in Rankoshi town located in the southwestern part of Sapporo city. Hot springs were discovered in 1885. There are 3 hot spring facilities. Visitors can take a day trip bath at Tsukiminoyado Akahane (月美の宿 紅葉音) and Rankoshi Citizen Center Yukichichibu (蘭越町交流センター 雪秩父). There are Chisenupuri Ski Resort (チセヌプリスキー場), Oyunuma pond (大湯沼), Koyunuma pond (小湯沼) and a natural pavilion. The visitors can enjoy footbathing at the Oyunuma pond in a summer. Article is here

Niseko Kogane Onsen
Niseko Kogane Onsen (ニセコ黄金温泉) is a hot spring facility in Rankoshi town. Hayashi couple, a little less than 80 years old, runs it. Originally they were a farm family, and hot springs gushed out when they dug agricultural well water, and they built the hot spring facility at their site. I was surprised at the hot spring facility because all facilities about the hot springs were handmade. Niseko Kogane Onsen is famous for having a semi-mixed bathing open-air bath and fresh free flowing hot spring. Many hot spring enthusiasts come to this hot spring facility. By the way, visitors can not take a bath in a winter. Article is here

Niseko Konbu Onsen
Niseko Konbu Onsen (ニセコ昆布温泉) is a hot-spring resort in Niseko town located in the southwestern part of Sapporo city. There are 4 hot-spring facilities around Sakamoto Park (坂本公園) that Kanrosen spring (甘露泉) springs out. Niseko Konbu Onsen is near the Niseko Moiwa Ski Resort (ニセコモイワスキー場) and tourists can enjoy a ski and a snowboarding. Visitors can take a day trip bath at Koikawa Onsen Ryokan (鯉川温泉旅館), Niseko Grand Hotel (ニセコグランドホテル) and Hotel Kanro-no-Mori (ホテル甘露の森). Article is here

Niseko Annupuri Onsen
Niseko Annupuri Onsen (ニセコアンヌプリ温泉) is a resort town in Niseko town located in the southwest part of Sapporo city. Annupuri means "Mountain with a precipice" in Ainu language. There are hotels, hot-spring hotels and lodgings around Niseko Annupuri International Ski Resort (ニセコアンヌプリ国際スキー場). Visitors can take a day trip bath at Yugokorotei (湯心亭) and Ikoi-no-Yuyado Iroha (いこいの湯宿 いろは), but those are far away from the resort town a little. Article is here
Weiss Onsen is a hot spring hotel in Kyowa town located in the southwestern part of Sapporo city and opened a business in 1970. There are 2 indoor baths at the center of a bathhouse. The indoor baths are hot spring and warm spring. Article is here

Rankoshi-Cho Interchange Promotion Center Yusenkaku (蘭越町交流促進センター 幽泉閣) is a hot-spring hotel in Rankoshi town located in the southwestern part of Sapporo city and started a business in 1958. There is a building on the back of Kombu Station (昆布駅) and near a park golf course. Niseko Hirafu Onsen (ニセコ比羅夫温泉) is a hot-spring resort in Kutchan town located in the southwestern part of Sapporo city. This hot-spring resort is called "Niseko Mountain Resort (ニセコマウントリゾート)". There is Niseko Grand Hirafu Ski Resort (ニセコ グラン・ヒラフ) known as the largest ski resort in Niseko, and many skier and snowboarder come to this town. Niseko Niimi Onsen (ニセコ新見温泉) is a hot-spring resort in Rankoshi town located in the southwestern part of Sapporo city. In the heart of a mountain, there are 2 hot spring hotels, Niimi Honkan (新見本館) and Niimi Onsen Hotel (新見温泉ホテル), just before a closed to vehicular traffic gate in a winter. [Closed Business] Niseko Yakushi Onsen
Niseko Yakushi Onsen Ryokan (ニセコ薬師温泉) is closing a business now. This is an article before closing. Niseko Yakushi Onsen Ryokan (ニセコ薬師温泉旅館) is a hot-spring ryokan in Rankoshi town located in the southwestern part of Sapporo city and is said to be one of three major secret hot springs in Japan. Because a building was destroyed, I thought that this hot spring facility closed a business. But, it opened the bussiness. A staying is possible, too. Because there was a ticket vendor at their private house, I purchased a bathing ticket via the ticket vendor. An entrance fee to the bath facility was JPY 300. Article is here

Kawakami Onsen Ryokan (川上温泉旅館) is a long-established hot-spring ryokan in Kyogoku town located in the southwestern part of Sapporo city and was founded in 1925. The exterior appearance and the interior decoration have an atmosphere such as the Showa period. The exterior appearance looks like a Japanese old style store, so a madam said "Many people have misunderstood this onsen is closed." But it opens a business properly. An entrance fee is JPY 500. Kyogoku Fureai Koryu Center (京極ふれあい交流センター) is a hot spring facility in Niseko and was founded in 1996. There is Kyogoku Fukidashi Park (京極噴出し公園) near Kyogoku Fureai Koryu Center and are a camping ground, a park golf course, a tennis court and a gateball course around Kyogoku Fureai Koryu Center. There are 1 outdoor bath, 2 indoor bath, 1 whirlpool bath, 1 medicated bath, 1 cold bath and 1 sauna at a bathhouse. Hot springs are sodium chloride sulfate spring, and are clear and colorless and have neither taste nor smell. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathhouse. Makkari Village Onsen Rest Center Makkari Onsen (真狩村温泉保養センター まっかり温泉) is a hot-spring facility in Makkari village located in the southwestern part of Sapporo city and was founded in 1993. It is famous for seeing Mt. Yotei (羊蹄山) from an outdoor bath. There are Maccarina (マッカリーナ), famous restaurant served a meal using vegetables, and World Lily Garden (世界のユリ園) near a building. There are 1 outdoor bath, 1 indoor bath, 1 cold bath and 1 sauna at a bathhouse. Maccarina (マッカリーナ) is a French cuisine restaurant in Makkari villege, Niseko. It is known as the restaurant with accommodations called Auberge. When the Lake Toya Summit carried out in 2008, first ladies in the world ate their dishes and seemed to deepen friendship each other. In addition, they got one star in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. It is the celebrity restaurant that everyone knows. I heard from my older sister that vegetables were particularly tasty, and I visited here. By the way, ASPERGES (they garnered one star in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition) in Biei town and Moliere (they garnered three stars in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition) in Sapporo are sister restraunts. Nakama (なかま) is a ramen restraunt in Kutchan town (Niseko) located in the western part of Sapporo city and opened a business in 1997. The ramen restraunt is famous for getting the Bib Gourmand in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. I visited here around 17:00 on weekdays. The ramen restraunt had an atmosphere such as a typical ramen restraunt. White and red interior decoration was very bright. There are some tables, so family customers seem to enjoy. Article is here

Tunnel-mochi Rice Cakes
Suetsugu Shokai (末次商会) is a Japanese confectionery store near Kozawa station (小沢駅) in Kozawa, Kyowa town and is famous for selling Kozawa's local specialty sweets "Tunnel-mochi Rice Cake (トンネル餅)". The Tunnel-mochi Rice Cake was made in commemoration of the completion of Inaho Tunnel for Hakodate Main Line with great difficulty construction by the founder, Mr. Kyutaro Nishimura (西村久太郎), in 1904. This is the longtime seller Japanese sweet more than 110 years. By the way, the son of Mr. Kyutaro Nishimura is Mr. Keiyu Nishimura (西村計雄), Japanese painter, and Keiyu Nishimura Memory Museum (西村計雄記念美術館) is built in the Kyowa town. Article is here
