Skunk Cabbage and Damp Ground Are Designed as Natural Monument -Memanbetsu Hygrophyte Colony-

Memanbetsu Hygrophyte Colony (女満別湿生植物群落) is on the shore of Lake Abashiri (網走湖), it is famous for looking at skunk cabbages. Broad leaf forest such as Japanese Ash and Alnus Japonica var Grow at the damp ground of 56 ha. It has been designed as the natural monument. The skunk cabbages seemed to be in full bloom from mid May to late May, but those were flowered when I visited here in late April 2015. A wooden path is not so long and tourists can go around for about 20 minutes. But you should wear your shoes that you would not mind getting dirty. There are no facilities except the wooden path. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge. In addition, there is Memanbetsu Onsen (女満別温泉) near the Memanbetsu Hygrophyte Colony.
