Great Hot Springs in Suburbs of Sapporo -Hoheikyo Onsen in Sapporo-

May 12th, 2014

Hoheikyo Onsen (豊平峡温泉) is a popular hot-spring facility for a day trip bath in the southwestern part of Sapporo city. Hoheikyo is farther than Jozankei Onsen (定山渓温泉) from downtown. There are Hoheikyo Dam (豊平峡ダム) saving water for Lake Jozan (定山湖), Shizen-no-Mura (自然の村 * nature village) with cottages and an auto camping ground near the Hoheikyo Onsen. Furthermore, Onsen Shokudo's Indian curry (Onsen食堂のインドカレー) at a building of the Hoheikyo Onsen is famous, too, and people visit here only to eat Indian curry.

When I read Tweets, Hoheikyo Onsen seems to be popular.

Hoheikyo Onsen won the first place in TripAdvisor "Hot Spring for Day Trip Bath Section in 2013" in Japan. There are 3 opne-air baths and 3 indoor baths at a bathhouse. Open-air baths are divided into 2 bathhouse groups, "Fukuro-no-Yu (ふくろうの湯) and Asobiyu-no-Roten (遊湯の露天)" and "Muine-no-Yu (無意根の湯)", the bathhouse for men is replaced the bathhouse for women every day. All bathtubs have fresh free-flowing hot-springs. Because they declare that freshness of the hot springs is the most important, they will have confidence of the hot spring quality. The hot springs are sodium and calcium chloride carbonated spring, and are a little opaque and light brown and have a little salty taste and a little sulfur smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 2.390 g. There is a drinking hot spring facility at the bathhouse, and bathers can drink the hot springs. When I drank it, it tasted salty. The hot springs seem to be effective for Chronic digestive diseases, Chronic constipation, Diabetes, Gout and Liver disease.

I took a bath at the open-air bath "Fukuro-no-Yu and Asobiyu-no-Roten". The open-air baths were large and had good views, too. It is the size that about 200 people take a bath. Besides, the hot-spring incrustations which are made from calcium ingredients floats in the hot springs.

There are 3 indoor baths which are different in temperature. At the bathhouse, overflowed hot spring ingredients have deposited on the floor and the bathtubs, and those look like Turkish Pamukkale. The hot springs may be rich ingredients. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathhouse. A restroom and free hair dryers are installed at a dressing room. By the way, visitors can not stay at this facility because there is not accommodation.
