April 16th, 2017
Toda Memorial Park Cemetery (戸田記念墓地公園) is a cemetery run by Soka Gakkai (創価学会) in Atsuta ward (厚田区), Ishikari city (石狩) located in the northeast part of Sapporo city. Mr. Seijo Toda (戸田城聖), the second-generation president of the Soka Gakkai, grew in Atsuta, and the Toda Memorial Park Cemetery was built in his memory. There are more than 54,000 graves on the site and the cemetery is large. About 8000 cherry trees such as Yoshino cherry are planted and are in full bloom from early May to mid May. This is a religious facility, but everybody can enter freely in cherry blossom season. Admission free and a parking lot is free of charge.
There are a restraunt, rest stations and restrooms around Toda Memorial Open Space (戸田記念広場). The cherry blossoms can be seen along roads, and Okan Road (桜冠の道) and Oka Road (桜花の道) are highlights. By the way, the size and the material of all the graves are same, so views with marching graves are interesting.
